LAFC exercises option on Carlos Vela

LAFC exercised the option on Carlos Vela, the 2019 MLS MVP.

The former Mexican international was one of five players who had their options picked up, giving LAFC 25 players under contract for 2022.

Vela, 32, scored 34 goals and assisted 15 more in 2019, his second with LAFC, but he had only nine goals with seven assists in the last two seasons during which injuries limited him to only 27 appearances.

Colombian midfielder Eduard Atuesta, a 2018 Best XI pick, will also be back after having his option picked up. LAFC also exercised contract options on forward Danny Musovski, midfielder Bryce Duke and defender Sebastien Ibeagha.

LAFC is searching for a new coach following the Bob Bradley's move to Toronto FC. It failed to make the playoffs for the first time in 2021.

    Vela can ago home and not return. We thank him for his time with LAFC. We need youth from the academy
