USA beats Mexico to take Concacaf Women's U-20 Championship crown

The USA's 2-0 win over Mexico in the Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship final – on goals by Michelle Cooper and Talia DellaPeruta – marked its seventh shutout win of the tournament.

Cooper opened the scoring in the 3rd minute after robbing goalkeeper Mexico goalkeeper Celeste Espino following a back pass. The Duke striker finished with a tournament-leading eight goals. Talia DellaPeruta scored on a 43rd minute penalty kick after Alexxandra Ramirez fouled Alyssa Thompson.

The USA had a 12-10 edge in shots over Mexico, which forced three saves from goalkeeper Neeku Purcell, more than required by U.S. goalkeepers in the previous six games.

Coach Tracey Kevins' team's 49 goals (while conceding zero) broke the tournament record of 40 goals the USA managed two years ago, when it beat Mexico, 4-1, in the final.

Both the USA and Mexico qualified for the 2022 Women's U-20 World Cup as semifinal winners, while Canada qualified thanks to its 2-0 win over Puerto Rico in the third-place game.

    Congrats to Coach Tracey and the Gals... A Job Well Done...
    If you Consider that in a "Normal" Cycle, you will get 3 or 4 National Team Players out of a group, then we can be Encouraged...

    I would like to see a "Scrimmage" between this Group and the Full National Team... It would be VERY Close I think.

    There was also a u23 USA team playing in Portland Thorne Tourney this Window; I haven't had a chance to see those games yet.
    So, things Looking a Little Brighter for USWNT One Year away from Full Make-Over

    Moultrie is like Busio....
    Same Problem;
    Can the Team play, thru a "REGISTA".???
    Does the USWNT even Need to play that way.???
    The Fact that we only NEED to play "Smart" Soccer in a Limited number of Games, leads to Turbo Play and is Hard to Overcome, if you Don't "Practice, what you Preach"
    A bit of a Quandary; because we all Love to see such Technical and Tactical players coming thru the "System", but, We don't have Surrounding Players and Coaches that have the Patience to "Live It".
