MLS: Another Saturday, another record-breaking goalfest

Until a week ago, the MLS record for goals in a day was 46.

The 13 games on Aug. 6 obliterated the record with 57 goals.

Saturday's 12 games did not break the record, but they came close, producing 51 goals.

One record was broken:


Eastern Conference:

Philadelphia opened up a five-point lead at the top with a 4-1 win over Chicago and NYCFC's 3-2 loss at Inter Miami. Four teams remain tied on points in sixth place with Orlando City and Inter Miami ahead of New England and FC Cincinnati on the first tiebreaker (total wins).

The top three teams -- LAFC, Austin FC and FC Dallas -- combined for 13 goals in their wins. Three teams are tied on points in sixth place -- LAFC, Nashville SC and Portland -- though the picture at the playoff line will look a lot different after Sunday's two matches: Nashville SC-Minnesota United and Seattle-Real Salt Lake.
