Rosters: U.S. U-17 and U-16 MYNTs to hold concurrent camps

The U.S. under-17 and under-16 men’s youth national teams will gather Aug.18-24 for a training camp at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, California.

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2006 are age-eligible for the current U-17 MYNT cycle. On Tuesday, Concacaf announced that the 2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship, which will qualify four teams to 2013 U-17 World Cup in Peru, will be held Feb. 11-26 in Guatemala

It’s the U-17 MYNT’s fifth gathering under head coach Gonzalo Segares. Most recently, the U-17s finished first at a UEFA Development Tournament held in May with wins over Belgium and host Portugal and a loss to Italy.

The Chula Vista camp will give Segares a chance to look at more players. Just five U-17s to be in Chula Vista were on the May trip to Portugal. Twelve players are taking part in their first U-17 training camp. One of them is New York Red Bulls Homegrown signing Bento Estrela (photo), who started for Portugal's U-17s in their 2-1 loss to the USA in May.
