NWSL: Three teams close in on their first playoff berths

The expansion San Diego Wave held on its lead in the NWSL when the Kansas City Current and Portland Thorns had to settle for a 1-1 tie in Sunday's lone match.

Hailie Mace's goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time earned the Current the draw before 9,281 fans at Children’s Mercy Park.

Just four points separate the top six teams. The top three teams are all looking to make the playoffs for the first time: the expansion Wave, second-year Current and Houston Dash, which entered the NWSL in 2014.
