U.S. U-17s fall to Slovakia's U-18s in Czech Republic

Coach Gonzalo Segares' U.S. U-17s fell 1-0 on Wednesday to Slovakia on a 41st minute goal by Davida Petrik in its opener at U-18 Vaclav Jezek Tournament in the Czech Republic.

Segares is preparing the team for the Concacaf U-17 Championship (Feb. 11-22 in Guatemala) that serves as the region's qualifying tournament for the 2023 U-17 World Cup in Peru next fall.

The U.S. team is comprised players players born in 2006 and one 2007 (Houston Dynamo academy forward Ezekiel Soto). Its opponents are fielding mainly players born in 2005.

Germany opened with a 4-0 win over host Czech Republic.
