Sonora brothers head to Liga MX's FC Juarez

It's been rare for American brothers to play together on the same pro team, let alone be signed at the same time.

Joel Soñora, 26, and Alan Soñora, 24, both signed with Liga MX's FC Juarez on Tuesday. They are the sons of former MLS player Diego Soñora. They were born in the USA but grew up in their father's native Argentina.

Joel played for the USA at the 2015 U-20 World Cup. He spent time in Germany in the VfB Stuttgart system before returning to Argentina, where he bounced around at Talleres, Arsenal Sarandí, Banfield and Velez Sarsfield. He made four appearances at Portugal's Maritimo last fall.

Alan made his U.S. senior debut in January, appearing in both matches against Serbia and Colombia. He played three seasons at  Independiente, scoring 11 goals in 89 appearances across all competitions.

The Soñora bothers join a third American at Los Bravos, veteran defender Ventura Alvarado.
