USA-Japan postgame: Vlatko Andonovski

“We knew it was going to be different. We knew we were gonna see different challenges, and there were moments in the game that we got exposed. We were not necessarily forced, but we made some changes and adjusted our system a little bit. The players had to adjust on the fly. And I think that was a very good learning opportunity, a very good moment for us, because we were able to solve some problems. I’m sure there’s still more that we need to solve, and we’re gonna look at videos and figure out how to do that as well."

-- Vlatko Andonovski after the USWNT's 1-0 win over Japan in which its front four struggled to maintain possession. After the SheBelieves Cup match, he termed Japan, which caused the USA all kinds of problems with its high-pressing game and interchange of players, "superb." Nonetheless, the result extended the USA's streak of shutout wins to four games, the same number of matches the Nadeshiko has lost without scoring.

Japan was "superb" other than their ability to finish. I found last night's game concerning with the WC in a few months. I realize that Andonovski sat a number of best 11 but this tells me that our depth is suspect, which will be needed in tournament play. I do admire all the US players though there were three who started last night who may not provide the depth and support needed at this summer's WC. Our counter attack that earned our goal was text book stuff. Let us hope that Andonovski does 'figue it out."
