Nashville SC: Gary Smith gets contract extension

Nashville SC extended the contract of head coach Gary Smith, the only coach in its MLS history, and his coaching staff through the 2025 season.
In Nashville SC's first three seasons, it reached the playoffs each time, matching a feat only four other expansion teams have accomplished: Atlanta United, the Chicago Fire, LAFC and Seattle Sounders .
“We are thankful of the leadership that Gary and his coaching staff have provided, and excited to reward them as they continue to lead us into the future,” said Nashville SC General Manager Mike Jacobs. “Finishing joint fourth place in the Western Conference standings last season after the challenging travel and starting the season with the first eight matches on the road is no small feat, and we appreciate the direction that Gary, his coaching staff, and the players are heading in.”
In 2020, expansion Nashville SC reached the Eastern Conference semifinals. It returned to the conference final four in 2021. The 2022 season ended in the conference semifinals but not before Nashville SC earned its highest win total in club history (13).
