COLLEGE: LIU ties No. 1 St. John's, 1-1

A day after beating No. 10 Connecticut, 1-0, on Rich Bradley's penalty kick before 2,266 fans in the pouring rain, No. 1 St. John's was tied by Long Island, 1-1, at the Red Storm's Daly Worldwide Communications Classic. Trinidadian Wendell Parris scored for the Blackbirds, who extended their unbeaten streak to six games.

Defending national champion North Carolina rallied twice to tie No. 2 Wake Forest, 2-2. Wake (10-0-4) and No. 16 Coastal Carolina (14-0-1) are the only unbeaten teams in the country.

In other ACC action, No. 7 Maryland beat No. 4 Clemson, 1-0, on Scott Buete's goal.

Hector OrellanaÆs penalty kick with less than seven minutes to play Friday night gave Cal State Fullerton a 2-1 victory over No. 3 Indiana. The Hoosiers recovered from the loss to Fullerton, which snapped their 11-game winning streak, with a 3-1 win over No. 25 UC Santa Barbara.

In other matches involving Top 25 teams, No. 14 Furman beat No. 9 South Carolina, 1-0, on U.S. U-20 star Ricardo Clark's goal.

Sophomore Troy Roberts' goal in the 42nd minute gave No. 15 California a 1-0 win over No. 8 Stanford in Berkeley.

Julian Nash's goal in the 84th minute gave No. 17 Creighton a 2-1 win over No. 18 Bradley. The loss with the third in a row for the Braves, who also lost at home to Drake, 2-0.

No. 5 UCLA picked up two big wins on its swing through the Northwest, beating Oregon State (3-0) and Washington (1-0). Zach Wells tied the Bruin record with 11 saves against OSU. The win at UW was the Bruins' first in Seattle since 1980.

San Francisco took over first place in the WCC with a 2-0 at No. 12 Portland.

Freshman Jeff Curtin's penalty kick with 24 seconds left in regulation gave Georgetown a 3-2 win over No. 11 Notre Dame.

No. 24 Boston University lost its second America East game in four days with a 3-0 loss to New Hampshire.

Unranked Wisconsin-Milwaukee extended its winning streak to 14 games with three wins in five days. In the 7-0 win over Cleveland State, Bobby Lish tied a school record with five assists.
