• Louisville City opened the 2023 season with a 3-1 win at Orange County SC. Niall McCabe, who suffered a season-ending foot injury last August, marked his return with the opening goal in the 4th minute. Brian Ownby assisted on McCabe's goal and Cameron Lancaster's winner in the 57th minute ... Loudoun United stunned Memphis 901 with goals from Thomas Williamson and Zach Ryan in the first 11 minutes and went on to win 3-1 at AutoZone Park.
Western Conference:
• Defending champion San Antonio FC topped the Oakland Roots, 3-1, in front of a sell-out crowd of 8,106 people at Toyota Field. Two days after joining SAFC, defender Lamar Batista had quite a debut, scoring on a header and a shot from just past the midfield line, and he also assisted on Niko Hansen's opening goal ... Newcomer Alex Dixonscored a hat trick in the first half to lead Monterey Bay F.C. to a 5-3 win over Hartford Athletic.
