Eastern Conference:
• Birmingham took over the conference top spot with a 1-0 at Hartford thanks to an early goal by defender Gabriel Alves. The match featured the first start by 17-year-old midfielder Matthew Corcoran for the Three Sparks ... Charleston picked up its first win under new head coach Ben Pirmann with a 3-0 win over Tampa Bay on goals by Mexican U-17 international Fidel Barajas (photo), Augi Williams and Nick Markanich ... Indy Eleven also picked up its first win with a 1-0 victory at Detroit City FC on a goal by Bryam Rebellon ... Miami FC, Tampa Bay, Hartford and Memphis are all looking for their first wins.
Western Conference:
• Jordan Farr, the 2022 USL Championship Goalkeeper of the Year, stopped Zach Zandi's penalty kick on the last kick of the game to give San Antonio FC a 1-0 over Colorado Springs and a share of the conference lead with Sac Republic FC, a 1-0 winner over previously unbeaten and untied San Diego ... El Paso, which had lost its first three games of the season, stunned Louisville City, 3-0, before a crowd of 10,881 at Lynn Family Stadium, the highest attendance for a home opener in LouCity’s history. Spanish newcomer Marc Navarro (formerly with Espanyol, Watford and Leganes), Ricardo Zacarias and Petar Petrovic scored for the Locomotive FC ... Oakland's home opener against Memphis 901 had to be rescheduled because the new football field at Laney College has not had time to settle, causing the turf to not lay flat ... Besides the Roots, Rio Grande Valley FC, Las Vegas, Orange County SC and Phoenix are still winless.
