NWSL Weekend: Thorns trounce Current in 2022 title rematch

The Portland Thorns won their second game of the season with a 4-1 win at Kansas City Current in a rematch of the 2022 NWSL championship game.

Crystal Dunn opened the scoring for Portland in the third minute and was followed by Sophia Smith, who notched her first career hat trick.

The Thorns have won first two matches by a margin of 8-1.

The San Diego Wave also won its second game, getting a pair of goals from Alex Morgan in a 3-1 victory over the North Current.



All six forwards called into the USWNT camp ahead of friendlies against Ireland have scored in the NWSL's first two weeks: Smith with four goals, Morgan with three, Ashley Hatch with two and Trinity Rodman (Washington Spirit), Mallory Swanson (Chicago Red Stars) and Lynn Williams (Gotham FC) with one apiece, accounting for more than one-third of all goals (12 of 35).
