• League Championship. Ethan Horvath's Luton Town beat
Zack Steffen's Middlesbrough, 2-1, in a battle of Premier League promotion candidates. Steffen was controversially ruled to have fouled Carlton Morris for a penalty Morris converted to decide the game. Replays showed the Luton star fell without any contact by Steffen. "It was never a penalty," Boro boss Michael Carrick told BBC Radio Tees. "It wasn't even close. I can laugh it off as it doesn't change the course of our season." Burnley has clinched promotion. Sheffield United could follow the Clarets back to the top flight with a win on Wednesday. Luton and Boro are third and fourth and could meet in the promotion playoff final on May 29 at Wembley.
