Watch: NYCFC loanee Valentin Castellanos score four against Real Madrid


The 24-year-old Argentine Valentin Castellanos, scorer of 53 MLS goals for NYCFC in 2018-2022, is on a one-year loan to Girona FC. On Tuesday, he scored all of Girona's goals in its 4-2 LaLiga win over Real Madrid.

Castellanos, who now has 11 goals in 29 games since his LaLiga debut in mid-August, left NYCFC in midseason 2022 after scoring 13 goals (2 assists) in 17 games.

He had scored 22 goals (8 assists) in NYCFC's 2021 MLS Cup-winning season including its goal in the 1-1 final with Portland — plus NYCFC's first spot kick goal in the 4-2 shootout win.

Both NYCFC and Girona are owned by City Football Group (majority-owned by Abu Dhabi United Group.

    Castellanos demonstrated excellent awareness, anticipation, and calm in scoring four goals against RM referred to as "...the Flakiest Ever...." Bottom line, Girona was rewarded for its intensity and outstanding finishing.
