1. Notre Dame's Lapira and Cinalli take weekly honors

Notre Dame forwards Joseph Lapira and Amanda Cinalli swept the Soccer America Player of the Week awards.

Lapira topped off a career day on Sunday with his fourth goal of the game in overtime to give the Irish a 5-4 victory over Indiana before 5,613 fans at the Hoosiers' Armstrong Stadium.

Lapira, the Soccer America Men's Player of the Week, beat a Hoosier defender and chipped the ball over IU keeper Chris Munroe into the right side of the goal for the sensational winner.

The junior from Lake Charles, La., needed only 55 minutes to complete his hat trick, but an Indiana goal on a penalty kick with 11 seconds left in regulation tied the score at 4-4 and sent the game into overtime. His four goals were one short of the Notre Dame all-time record of five, set by Kevin Lovejoy in 1993. "He is a special player," said Notre Dame coach Bobby Clark of Lapira, "and we have a few of them on this team."

Cinalli factored in four of the Irish's five goals in their wins over USC (2-0) and then-No. 2 Santa Clara (3-1) at Notre Dame's Inn at Saint Mary's Classic.

She flicked a header off Michele Weissenhofer's throw-in in the 83rd minute for the second goal against USC. Two days later, Cinalli set up Jill Krivacek for the tying goal before scoring twice to cap Notre Dame's three-goal surge in a span of nine minutes against Santa Clara.
