Connecticut's Newtown Pride FC took off with the $1 million prize with a 2-0 win over Ontario's SLC SC to capture The Soccer Tournament.
The winner-take-all championship consisted of 7v7 play and attracted 32 teams this weekend at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Newtown Pride's path to the final included matches against a team from Borussia Dortmund, the DMV Diplomats, a team from Hapoel Tel Aviv as well as Sneaky Fox FC (organized by former MLS MVP Mike Magee) and Zala FFF (featuring AJ DeLaGarza and Lee Ngyuen).
Kelvin Nunes, who scored the $1 million goal in Target Score Time to complete the 2-0 victory, was named TST’s MVP. He scored six goals, one in each of Newtown's final six games.
Newtown Pride FC was the winner of the USASA's 2019 Amateur Cup, qualifying automatically for the next U.S. Open Cup (played in 2022).
MORE THAN A GAME.
A portion of our winnings today will go to the Newtown Pride FC Scholarship Fund at the Newtown Community Center in Newtown, CT.
