U.S. connection: Philippines takes nine Californians

Of the 23 players on the Philippines' roster, just one player, Anicka Castañeda, was born in the Philippines. Eighteen players were born in the United States, including nine in California. Among them is Reina Bonta, the daughter of California attorney general (and former U.S. U-20) Rob Bonta. The youngest is rising high school senior Kaiya Jota (LA Breakers). Other states represented: Washington with two players and Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia with one each, plus one born in the District of Columbia. The team also includes Angela Beard (3 caps for Australia), Jaclyn Sawicki (1 cap for Canada) and Sara Eggesvik and Meryll Serrano (both former Norway U-23s).
