World Deaf Football Championships: U.S. women win 8-0, men split

The USA opened with an 8-0 win over Japan in women's play at the 2023 World Deaf Football Championships in Kuala Lumpur.

Emily Spreeman scored four goals and added two assists for the USWDNT, which was playing its first game as part of U.S. Soccer's extended national team program.

Casey King added two goals and an assist, while Faith Wylie and Sydney Andrews had the other two goals for the U.S. women.

The U.S. men split, opening with a 3-2 win over host Malaysia before falling to Egypt by the same score.

The scorers: Chad Johnson with two goals and Trip Neil with one against Malaysia and Tate Lancaster and Chris Bourdon with second-half goals against Egypt.
