Within the last two years, three Americans -- Haji Wright, Weston McKennie and Nick Taitague -- at age 18 joined Bundesliga club Schalke 04, which has one of Germany's best records of promoting players from its youth and reserve ranks. The list includes Manuel Neuer, Mesut Ozil, Julian Draxler, Benedikt Hoewedes, Leroy Sane, Joel Matip, Sead Kolasinac and Max Meyer.

No one has spent more time coaching in MLS than goalkeeper coach Tim Hanley, who left the San Jose Earthquakes after the 2017 season, his 19th season of coaching in the 22-year-old league, and is currently with the Philadelphia Union coaching staff at the MLS Combine in Florida.

Sueno Alianza launched a decade ago as a talent search for largely neglected young Latino players in the USA. In 2017, more than 8,000 players attended Powerade Sueno Alianza tryouts in 11 cities across the USA. In 2013, Jonathan Gonzalez of Santa Rosa, California, was named the top player at the Sueno Alianza National Finals in Los Angeles and received offers from 13 Liga MX clubs.

Since 2003, Phil Wright has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of U.S. Club Soccer, which was founded in 2001 and is one of the four youth governing bodies under the U.S. Soccer Federation umbrella, along with U.S. Youth Soccer, AYSO and SAY Soccer.
