It used Discretionary Targeted Allocation Money and Targeted Allocation Money as part of the acquisition. The Fire also paid $50,000 in General Allocation Money to the Seattle Sounders for Gaitan's discovery rights. Gaitan has made 274 league appearances in the top divisions of Argentina, Portugal, Spain and China.

    2. The United Soccer League is introducing the USL Academy Cup next year with U-13 and U-17 competitions for its teams in the Championship, League One and League Two. The U-17 competition will consist of two regional qualifiers and the national finals in Tampa, Florida. The U-13 age group will compete only at the national event. Only a handful of independent USL Championship teams currently operate full programs in the Development Academy, but the goal is to accelerate youth development so all USL clubs across the three leagues have full-fledged academy programs under the USL Academy umbrella.
