  • What They're Saying: Alejandro Bedoya

"We're at a time where I think we need to take the training wheels off. The league has moved on so far. For me, it's more about getting proper rest and recovery. It's just a waste of a day on Sunday to spend a whole day in airports and on planes when we have a midweek game."

-- Philadelphia Union captain Alejandro Bedoya on MLS's policy allowing only four charter flights per team per year (barring emergencies), after the Union, which has games scheduled against FC Cincinnati on Wednesday and against New England on Saturday, spent all of Sunday traveling after its game at Vancouver on Saturday instead of taking a red-eye charter flight directly home. 1. Crossfire Premier's claim for solidarity payments was rejected over the transfer of former Seattle Sounders midfielder DeAndre Yedlin to Tottenham, reported ESPN FC and Sounder at Heart. The legal bases for the decision by FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber were not given. Earlier this year, U.S. youth clubs lost cases before the DRC for solidarity payments involving Clint Dempsey and Michael Bradley. Unlike those cases, the claimant (Crossfire Premier) won't have to pay a fee ($8,000-$10,000) to have a detailed ruling issued.

    2. A motion for a preliminary injunction will heard on Wednesday involving MLS expansion team Inter Miami's plans to demolish Fort Lauderdale's Lockhart Stadium and build a new stadium in which it would play in 2020 and 2021 while it tries to finalize a deal to for its development on Miami's Melreese golf course. FXE Futbol is suing the city of Fort Lauderdale over its decision to agree to move forward with Inter Miami's plans for the Lockhart site rather than the proposal presented by FXE Futbol. With Inter Miami slated to begin play in MLS next season, any court delay could be problematic.

    3. The New England Revolution hired Kevin Hitchcock as an assistant coach to replace Ruben Garcia, who left to become sporting director of Huesca in his native Spain. Hitchcock has worked at clubs in England, Qatar, and India, most recently serving as the goalkeeping coach at Birmingham City, hired in 2016 to work under Gianfranco Zola, his former teammate at Chelsea. He was Revolution head coach Brad Friedel's goalkeeper coach at Blackburn Rovers in 2004-08 when Friedel played there.
