  • Evening Edition: What's in the news ...

    1. The U.S. women's national team will play its last two games of the 2019 season against Sweden on Nov. 7 in Columbus, Ohio, and against Costa Rica on Nov. 10 in Jacksonville, Florida. They will be played following the conclusion of the 2019 NWSL season and could be the first games for the new national team coach. Jill Ellis will step down following the Victory Tour, which ends with two games against South Korea in early October.

    2. Wednesday's key NWSL match between Reign FC and the Utah Royals was postponed because of "unplayable" field conditions at Cheney Field in Tacoma, Washington. Reign FC and Utah are currently tied for the fourth and final playoff berth. There have been heavy rains in the Tacoma area in recent days. The USL's Tacoma Defiance hosted the Real Monarchs at Cheney Field on Tuesday night.

    3. No. 3 Wake Forest fell from the ranks of the unbeaten and untied teams in NCAA Division I men's soccer when it lost at James Madison, 1-0. Manuel Ferriol scored on a free kick for his fifth goal of the season for the Dukes, who are unbeaten against ACC teams (3-0-1) in the last two seasons. Rutgers suffered its first blemish when it tied Penn, 1-1.  Clemson, SMU, St. John's and Virginia all remained perfect with wins early in the week.
