  • Friday morning: What's in the news ...

    1. MLS's Generation adidas Cup will be expanded in 2020 to feature 25 MLS and 15 international academy teams in the U-17 division. Inter Miami and FC Cincinnati will both be making their GA Cup debuts this year. The international clubs represented will include Boca Juniors, River Plate, Sao Paulo, Southampton, Olympiacos, Guadalajara, Crvena zvezda and Real Betis in the top of three U-17 divisions. The U-15 division will feature a head-on-head competition between the top MLS and Liga MX teams. MLS youth affiliate clubs will compete in a new Affiliate Challenge. All games will take place April 4-11 at the Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco, Texas.

    2. USL League One champion North Texas SC has loaned midfielder Arturo Rodriguez to the 2019 USL Championship winner Real Monarchs for the 2020 season with an option to buy. Rodriguez, 21, won the 2019 USL League One Most Valuable Player and Young Player of the Year awards. He had eight goals and a league-high 10 assists and scored the title-clinching goal in the USL League One final.

    3. San Francisco City FC has appointed Eddie Soto as its new head coach. Soto served as the head coach for the University of San Francisco men's team for five seasons (2014-2018). He joins the  USL League Two team after recently stepping down as the U.S. beach soccer men's national team head coach after 12 years in charge of the team.
