  • In Brief: American men in Europe (Saturday)

    1. Alex Mendez scored his first goal for Portuguese Primeira Liga club Vizela (video) in its 2-0 win over Estrela in the Taca de Portugal. Mendez, 21, joined promoted Vizela after two seasons at Jong Ajax and won a starting spot in late October. Fellow LA Galaxy youth product Alejandro Alvarado, 18, made his debut, starting in the win.
    2. Ian Harkes equaled his scoring total in his first three seasons in the Scottish Premier League with his third goal of the season on a flick of the outside of his foot (video) for short-handed Dundee United in its 1-0 win over Aberdeen.
    3. Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson started for Fulham in its 4-1 win over Barnsley that at least temporarily moved the Cottagers into first place in the English Championship.
