• USL League One's North Carolina FC signed 17-year-old defender Adrian Pelayo from the Portland Timbers academy to a pro contract. He had attended a U.S. U-17 national team camp in April but has been called up for next week's Mexican U-17 national camp ahead of the U-17 World Cup in Indonesia. One of the Mexican stars is the Charleston Battery's Fidel Barajas, who, like Pelayo, started out with the U.S. U-17s and in an MLS academy before switching to Mexico's U-17s and a USL pro team. Two other U.S.-based players -- Javen Romero (LAFC academy) and Fernando Delgado (Real Monarchs) -- are competing for berths on the Mexico U-17 team.
