The United States has lost two more starters for the first of two games against Cost Rica Dec. 1. Kasey Keller injured his ankle in Leicester City's 2-0 win over Manchester United in a English League Cup game Nov. 27. He will be replaced in the U.S. goal by Brad Friedel. Juergen Sommer has been brought in to take Keller's spot on the U.S. roster. Despite suffering an ankle injury in a 2-0 win over Manchester United in the English Premier League Cup Nov. 2 -- the reason U.S. Soccer gave for his absence from the U.S. delegation that traveled to Costa Rica -- Kasey Keller is expected to play for Leicester City when it meets United again Nov. 30 at Old Trafford in a Premier League game. Reports out of England put Keller's chances of playing at Old Trafford at 60-40. U.S. Soccer excused Keller from playing in the World Cup '98 qualifier against Costa Rica the following day. …

A five-hour meeting of the Mexican soccer federation's (FMF) national council in Mexico Nov. 28 failed to produce a decision about the future of national team coach Bora Milutinovic, under pressure from many quarters for his team's poor play in the first round of World Cup qualifying. It postponed its decision until Dec. 18 in Guadalajara, after the First Division presidents assembly meeting Dec. 9 in Guadalajara, where the national council hopes to produce a consesus about the meeting.
