  • Wynalda out for USA-El Salvador match
The U.S. will be without forward Eric Wynalda for this weekend's World Cup qualifying match against El Salvador. Wynalda, who has been bothered by a groin injury throughout the 1997 MLS season, reaggravated the injury during the USA's 2-1 win over Israel on June 17. He is not expected to travel with the U.S. to El Salvador. With Wynalda, the national team's all-time leading goalscorer, out, Steve Sampson will likely choose from among Jovan Kirovski, Roy Lassiter, Claudio Reyna, and David Wagner for his starting frontrunners.
