By Ridge Mahoney The Crew is still unbeaten, D.C. United is still pointless, and Toronto FC is still goalless after the fourth weekend of MLS play. (Colorado and Real Salt Lake play a rare Monday night match.) Taylor Twellman scored again and defending champion Houston again was shut out. Chris Rolfe scored on the hour as the Fire (3-0-1) downed the Dynamo, 1-0, to join the New York Red Bulls atop the Eastern Conference. Houston (1-2-1) hit the crossbar twice (Brian Ching, Brad Davis) while being blanked for the third time this season. After a listless, even …

PSV won the Dutch Eredivisie title for the 20th time when it beat Vitesse, 5-1, on Sunday and edged Ajax for the championship on goal difference. Peruvian Jefferson Farfan led PSV with two goals against Vitesse. Brazilian Alex and young Dutch international Ibrahim Afellay also scored. Veteran Phillip Cocu struck the fifth goal that proved to be the goal that clinched the title with 13 minutes remaining. PSV finished with a goal difference of plus-50, one better than Ajax, which won, 2-0, at Willem II. PSV, Ajax and AZ went into the final day of the …

French goalkeeping great Fabien Barthez left relegation-threatened Nantes a day after a group of drunken supporters cornered him in his car and he fought with one of them. The incident took place as Barthez was leaving Beaujoire Stadium Saturday night after a 2-0 loss to Rennes all but doomed the Canaries to relegation after 44 consecutive years in the top flight. Nantes president Rudi Roussillon said five drunken fans kicked Barthez's car and banged on the windscreen, and one fan tried to open the car door. Barthez got out and trade punches with one of the fans before …

By Ridge Mahoney REAL SALT LAKE (0-1-2) vs. COLORADO (1-1-1) (Monday, 9 pm ET, Direct Kick) Real Salt Lake can't be as bad as it looked while being thumped, 4-0, by Chivas USA, yet it was also blanked in its last home game by Columbus (0-0) and needed a couple of goalmouth saves by Eddie Pope and Medhi Ballouchy to pitch its own shutout. Keeper Nick Rimando looked shaky against Chivas USA, but rookie goalkeepers - even one as talented as U.S. under-20 Chris Seitz - have not flourished in MLS, so a change might not necessarily be …

Pachuca, which has won championships on two continents in the last six months, defeated Atlante, 4-1, to finish Mexico's Torneo Clausura as the overall leader of the first stage with 39 points, eight more than Guadalajara and nine more than Club America. Pachuca, which won last year's Torneo Clausura, captured the Copa Sudamericana in December and CONCACAF Champions Cup last Wednesday with a shootout win over Chivas. Guadalajara lost its final game to Jaguares, 1-0, but Chivas star Omar Bravo became the first Mexican to win a scoring title since 2001 when he finished the Clausura with 11 …

Goalkeeper Kasey Keller's club has been relegated to the German Second Division and English Premier League club Fulham, which has three Americans in its ranks, is threatened with a similar fate. But in Mexico, Santos Laguna, for which Edgar Castillo is a regular, survived a relegation scare. A 1-0 home loss to VfB Stuttgart means Borussia Monechengladbach, playing without the injured Keller, will be relegated to the Second Division. Keller, 37, joined Gladbach midway through 2004-05 season, when his performances were hailed for helping the club stay in the top flight. Keller, who played in the top two tiers …

Manchester United broke into the clear in the English Premier League race Saturday when it rallied from two goals down to beat Everton, 4-2, while second-place Chelsea could only tie Bolton Wanderers, 2-2, at home. The results left United five points ahead with three games to play for both teams, including a makeup game May 9 at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge. An EPL rule that prevented American keeper Tim Howard from playing for Everton had a role in the outcome. Although there's a $6 million transfer agreement in place for Howard to move to Everton, he is technically still on …

One of the biggest rivalries Indiana, the seven-time men's national champion, has developed is its spring season clash against Mexico. For the third straight spring, the Hoosiers host a Mexican national youth team in a friendly. This year's friendly against the Tri U-20s takes place Sunday at Armstrong Stadium. ''It's an honor to have the opportunity to play such a talented team in the U-20 Mexican national team,'' head coach Mike Freitag said. ''They have a good group of young professionals which will be a stern test for us. It is always fun to play a team that …

''You've torn your ACL.'' That's a phrase no player wants to hear. If you are a competitive soccer player, chances are fairly high that you know of a teammate (or perhaps yourself) who has sustained a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The ACL is a ligament -- a tough fibrous structure that joins a bone to another bone -- that is a major stabilizer for the knee. In soccer it is critical in rotational movements such as planting, cutting and pivoting. In the United States it is estimated that 250,000 people tear an ACL …
