1. Regular season. Will begin Feb. 26 and end Oct. 9. All 28 teams will play 34 games: 26 games against conference opponents (2 games per opponent) and 8 against non-conference opponents.
2. Midweek games. No more than five midweek matches will be played, targeting one each in May, June and July, and two in August. No midweek matches for each team will be scheduled in consecutive weeks.
3. *FIFA international windows. No games will played in first week of the June break or September break. Teams will require league approval to play during the March break or second week of the June break.
4. Playoffs. Will be played over three consecutive weeks, ending with MLS Cup 2022 on Nov. 5. (The World Cup in Qatar will start on Nov. 21, a week after the player release date.)
5. Conference alignment. Expansion Charlotte FC will compete in the Eastern Conference, while Nashville SC will move into the Western Conference, resulting in two 14-team conferences.
