The defending champion New York Cosmos opened the 2016 Spring Season with a 3-0 win over the Ottawa Fury in a rematch of the 2015 final they won, 3-2, last November. Venezuelan newcomer JuanArango scored twice for the Cosmos and Adam Moffat capped the victory with a 45-yard lob over Ottawa keeper Romuald Peiser.
