• Chicago Fire signed 19-year-old Greek striker Georgios Koutsias, who has been playing for Volos NPS on loan from PAOK, which reportedly receives a $2.5 million transfer fee. Koutsias, who scored three goals in 20 Greek Super League appearances Volos NPS, will occupy a U22 Initiative roster slot. He is seen as a replacement Colombian international Jhon Duran, whom the Fire sold to Aston Villa for a reported $22 million after scoring eight MLS goals in 2022. Duran was also acquired via the U22 Initiative. … Austin FC central defender Julio Cascante, subbed 11 minutes into Saturday’s season opener, will be sidelined indefinitely with left adductor strain. Cascante and Ruben Gabrielsen, who returned to his native Norway, anchored Austin’s defense in 2022. … The Colorado Rapids 2022 leading scorer Diego Rubio (16 goals and 7 assists), is out two to five weeks after right-knee arthroscopic surgery.
