The World Cup is only 70 days away. The U.S. national team disappointed in the March window and that has left both the team’s final roster and best starting lineup in question.
On the club level, the games continue to grow in importance. In Europe, silverware, European places, and even league survival is at stake. In MLS, a midseason approaches in which teams begin to separate.
The World Cup roster announcement deadline is about 50 days away. Here are the top five Easter weekend games to watch from an American perspective.
Paris Saint-Germain vs Toulouse (Ligue 1 🇫🇷)
• Mark McKenzie
Friday, April 3, 2:45 pm ET 📺 BeIN Sports, BeIN Sports Espanol
Mark McKenzie is one of several American players who is likely to make the World Cup roster but is not a lock. Even if he makes the team, he is still in a push to make the starting lineup as central defense is one of the murkiest areas of the entire U.S. national team player pool.
McKenzie, 27, should be heavily motivated to perform well down the stretch to prove to Mauricio Pochettino that he can be part of the solution to the national team’s backline problems. Now in the prime of his career, this should be his time to make the most of such an opportunity.
There is no better stage for McKenzie than against one of the best teams in the world in Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning European champion and the current Ligue 1 leaders.
As for Toulouse, there is almost nothing to play for in the final seven games of the season. The club has no realistic chance of qualifying for Europe nor faces any threat of relegation. But for McKenzie, he has a ton on the line as he looks to build a case to feature in his first World Cup.
Real Salt Lake vs. Sporting Kansas City (League)
• Diego Luna, Zavier Gozo, Aidan Hezarkhani
