
Brian Johnson grew up in Livermore, California — a 45-minute drive east from San Francisco — in the 1980s. For its time, Livermore was a hotbed for youth soccer when the rec game was springing up all over the country. “Every town had their own club and that’s where you played and stayed until you finished your U-19s,” says the 47-year-old Johnson.
