[BIG TEN: Men] The Big Ten handed a one-game suspension to Maryland men’s head coach Sasho Cirovski and issued apublic reprimand following the Northwestern game the Terrapins lost, 3-2, in overtime on Sunday. Maryland was fined $10,000 after Cirovski had to be restrained from approaching the officials followingthe match in Evanston, Ill.

Cirovski missed Maryland’s 1-0 win over VCU on Wednesday. Assistant coach Brian Rowland handled the coaching duties.Mael Corboz notched a penalty kick goal in the 17th minute, his third penalty kick of the season to halt a two-game losing skid for Maryland (4-5-2, 1-2-1 BigTen).

The winning goal by Cole Missimo in the Northwestern game came after Joey Calistri appeared to shoveMaryland’s U.S. U-20 defender, Chris Odoi-Atsem.

“I sincerely regret my actions towards the officials following our match at Northwestern onSunday,” Cirovski said in a statement. “I would like to personally apologize to the Big Ten Conference and vow that this will not happen again.”

This is the first yearMaryland has played in the Big Ten.

  1. Cirovski’s ranting and raving was such a stark contrast to Kevin Grimes calm presence at the college cup last year in Berkeley.
