Fast forward to 2002 when the USA makes a triumphant run to the Quarterfinals. That’s eight years where soccer was “about toexplode” and yet it didn’t. World Cup 2010 and 2014 saw the U.S. men’s national team make the knockout rounds but ultimately fall short of a deep run.
