FIFA on Wednesday barred Italian football federation (FIGC) president Carlo Tavecchio from holding any position with soccer’s governing body for six months due to an alleged racistcomment he made in August. The decision comes after the FIGC had cleared Tavecchio of any wrongdoing. During his campaign for the FIGC presidency, Tavecchio caused an outcry when he made a commentabout a fictitious African player he named Opti Poba “eating bananas” before being signed by Italian clubs.
