[COACHING CHANGES] Leigh Cowlishaw, the head coach of the USL PRO’s Richmond Kickers, has added the duties of interimhead coach at the University of Richmond, his alma mater, following the resignation of Clint Peay, who accepted a coaching position with the U.S. U-17 men’snational team.
“We are grateful to Coach Cowlishaw for agreeing to step in to assist with our men’s soccer program,” said LaRee Sugg, Associate Athletic Director. “He brings with him agreat affection and respect for the University as well as a desire to win that will be contagious among our student-athletes. We look forward to him being a positive influence on our young men duringhis tenure with our program. “
Cowlishaw came from Burton-on-Trent, England, and was CAA Player of the Year as a freshman in 1990, leading the Spiders to their first CAA title and firstNCAA Tournament berth.
He is the Spiders’ all-time leader in goals (54), assists (31) and points (139).
“I am honored that the University of Richmond asked me to guide themthrough this difficult transition period,” said Cowlishaw. “The challenge of producing a winning season, coupled with a return to my alma mater, was an opportunity I could not pass up. I look forwardto working with the players and am hopeful that my passion for soccer, UR and success will help drive the team toward a positive and memorable season.”
