The Timbers, who open a new era when they host the Chicago Fire in their first MLS home game on Thursday, are the subject of a new exhibit called “Soccer City, USA” that opens at the OregonHistory Museum at the Oregon Historical Society on Friday.

The original Timbers finished NASL runner-up as an expansion team in 1975. Jerseys, photos and all kinds of memorabilia datingback to the first championship team are included in the collection, which took more than a year to put together. Many former Timbers contributed to the collection.

“They were veryexcited and willing to give us anything we asked for,” said curator Michael Orr. “We have original contracts and game-worn jerseys and shoes andtravel itineraries.”
