[LOUISVILLE-SAINT LOUIS: Men] Senior Jimmy Ockford ended a wild Halloween night as he scored in overtime to give No. 12Louisville a 3-2 win over No. 20 Saint Louis in a match that featured a pair of red cards, one penalty kick and a goal in the final minute of regulation from SLU’s Robert Kristo.
Ockford’s third game-winner of the season was set up when sophomore Ricardo Velazco sent a looping free kick from justoutside the box on the right into the left side of the box, where junior Daniel Keller headed the ball to Ockford near the center of the box. Keller wascredited with his first assist of the season, while the assist for Velazco was his second of the night to go with one goal as well.
It was a rainy and windy night at Cardinal Park withwinds gusting beyond 40 mph throughout the night.
“I give our guys a lot of credit because there were a lot of reasons and moments where they could have given up or thrown it in tonight,”said Louisville’s Ken Lolla, who earned his 99th win as head coach of the Cardinals. “Playing into heavy wind and rain in the first half and going down a guy soearly, we not only survived that but we ended up scoring a good goal. This win was huge for us.”
The Cardinals’ troubles began less than four minutes into the match when German goalkeeperJoachim Ball was whistled for a handball outside the box and issued a red card. But Louisville managed to be the first to score three minutes later whenfreshman Andrew Brody beat SLU goalkeeper David Andre inside the right post from the center of the box. That lead wasshort-lived as Saint Louis answered less than three minutes later when Kristo connected from 22 yards out.
Louisville moved back ahead at 2-1 late in the first half when Velazco scored ona penalty kick in the 42nd minute with his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
The second ejection came when the Billikens’ David Traydon wasissued a red card for an excessively hard tackle in the 72nd minute.
