Schalke 04 midfielder Lewis Holtby, who signed a contract to join Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer this summer, will now reportedly move to the English Premier League clubbefore the January transfer window closes on Wednesday, ESPN reports. Spurs had initially seen its offer of $2 million for the 22-year-old rejected, with the Royal Blues wanting closer to $2.7million.
Holtby didn’t appear to be any closer to leaving Schalke over the weekend. Following the 0-0 draw at Augsburg, the 22-year-old said: “My fridge is still packed. Thussignals are not set for a departure.”
However, on Monday, German news outlets Bild and Sky claimed that the clubs had finally agreed on a transfer fee, though noprice was mentioned. With Holtby on his way, Schalke is believed to be close to signing Lyon midfielder Michel Bastos in a loan deal until 2014.
