Christian Pulisic was in a great mood at Wednesday’s practice.
Finally among one of the players made available before practice at the team’s training base in Irvine, California, Pulisic approached the reporters asking if he could guess the first question.
“I’m just kidding,” he said, although he most likely would have guessed correctly as he was immediately queried about his fitness.
“Feeling good,” he answered with a chuckle. “I’ve obviously joined the team in the last few days, so I’m feeling good, positive, and hopefully I’ll be able to play a part tomorrow.”
Since delivering a tremendous first half 12 days ago in the USA’s 4-1 opening win over Paraguay, we’ve seen more of the 27-year-old star in commercials — for Michelob Ultra, FOX Sports, McDonald’s and Wells Fargo — than on the field.
He sat out practices ahead of the USA’s 2-0 win over Australia, which he watched from the bench.
“I took a big kick to the calf a couple days before the [first] game,” he said. “Throughout the first half [against Paraguay], I felt good, and then I started to notice it a little bit, and I think adrenaline definitely carried me through.”
Asked who had kicked him, he smiled and said, “I will not disclose that.”
