American soccer fan base surges
American soccer’s fan base has grown to 75.2 million in July 2026 from 66.8 million in July 2025, according to Nielsen’s proprietary Fan Insights data report. That is the World Cup effect: an increase of 12 percent. That’s more than the previous five years combined, according to Nielsen, a 10.9% leap from May 2020 to May 2025. The size of the fan base puts the USA right behind Brazil as the world’s largest soccer countries where the men’s national team is a regular World Cup participant.
