Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson put an end to speculation that Wayne Rooney might start in Wednesday’s Champions League game against Bayern Munich, saying the England star has “no chance” of playing.

Rooney twisted his ankle in the first leg of the quarterfinal series and was ruled out of action for “two to three weeks” by Ferguson.Rooney did not train with the rest of the United squad on Tuesday morning.

“We’ve made some good progress with the lad, the medical team have done fantastic, but I’m not prepared to takea risk on a player who is not 100 percent fit,” said Ferguson. “The boy is making good progress. The medical team have done a fantastic job but it is an ankle injury the same as any other ankleinjury.”
