The UEFA Champions League may be a bloated, commercialized, top-heavy, greed-driven stitch-up that enriches the few and tramples upon the rest, but you have to be thankful for one thing. Only one team can win it. And year after year, that team is not Paris Saint-Germain.

Nothing against Paris, nothing against France. I love them both dearly. But a team that is owned and bankrolled by a state (a recent World Cup host) that represses human rights is only loveable if you’re a fan who can turn a blind eye to multiple transgressions against the historically oppressed — women, the gay community, and chronically underpaid migrant workers, to name but a few million.
