Good morning! There was no social media in the 1980s when the Heysel and Hillsborough tragedies took place. But the images of what happened last night at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, site of the Copa América final, are familiar to anyone who followed the events in 2021 at the Euro final at Wembley or the next year at the Champions League final at the Stade de France. Fans rushing the gates, some with tickets, others ticket-less. Others terrified they would be crushed at closed entrances or left outside unable to watch. And that was on top of those needing medical treatment or seeking water in the Florida heat. There has been no official tally of injuries or arrests. But a catastrophe was luckily avoided.
