The U.S. men are ending their 16-year drought when they participate in their first Olympic soccer tournament since the 2008 Beijing Games.
Over that time period, the U.S. U-23s failed in three straight qualifying attempts and each time was seen as a big setback in terms of giving top young players a chance to participate in a major tournament that would prepare them for the senior team.
