MLS Matchday 22 came and went, with a total of 49 goals scored between the weekend’s 15 games. Here at Soccer America, we’re breaking down the standout players from the latest round of action.
Antoine Griezmann (Orlando City)
Antoine Griezmann won Player of the Matchday honors after scoring both goals in Orlando City’s 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake. Since joining the Lions, the French World Cup winner has logged four goals and two assists in nine matches, and Orlando has lost just three times during that stretch.
On Saturday, Orlando initially played without a natural striker, and struggled in the first half. They brought on Daryl Dike and Justin Ellis at halftime, a change that quickly improved the team and freed Griezmann to float underneath the two forwards, allowing him to play in his preferred role and arrive late in the box, which led to his two goals. He’s rapidly improved this team, which is now in the playoff places in the Eastern Conference.

Pep Biel (Charlotte FC)
Charlotte FC is quietly putting together a solid run, up to fifth place in the East with three wins from its last five matches. Midfielder Pep Biel has been crucial to its improved form, with two assists and four goals in league play since returning from the World Cup break.
On Saturday, the Spaniard was stellar in a 3-1 win over DC United. He set up the game-winning goal from Will Cleary with a pinpoint corner kick delivery, and iced the game with a late goal from a scorching counterattack.
