Goal.com reports that Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen could require surgery to cure the hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined for the entire La Liga season so far.Vermaelen, 29, has yet to play for Barca since his 19 million euro ($23.6 million) switch from Arsenal over the summer. He picked up the injury while playing for Belgium at the World Cup.
