After scoring the game-winning goal in Liverpool’s 3-1 win against Leicester City on Tuesday, Steven Gerrard refused to reveal whether he would sign a new contract with the onlyclub he has ever played with as a professional. Gerrard was restored to the starting lineup after being dropped to the bench against Stoke City on Saturday, and responded by scoring Liverpool’ssecond goal in Tuesday’s victory at the King Power Stadium.

“I’ll decide when I’m ready,” Gerrard told reporters after the game. “There’s nothing tosay on the contract at the moment. When there is, the fans have known me long enough, I’ll come out and say what I need to say.” He added: “Over the last three performanceswe’ve been superb and we need to keep trying to improve on that. The reason I don’t want to answer your questions [on my contract] tonight is because it’s not about me, it’sabout the performance and a great three points, and that’s what the headline should be.”
